Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year! I am looking forward to seeing each of you on the first day of school which is September 7th. It will be a full day of school 7:45am-2:30pm.

Our vision here at J. Garfield Jackson Sr. Academy is to prepare our students to become well-rounded, empathetic, college and career ready leaders, equipped to compete in our global society. My goal this year is to ensure that your child is inspired and reaches their potential. I look forward to working with each of your children and having a monthly conversation with each of you.

As we begin this journey, I would like to emphasize just how important your consistent and ongoing participation is. For class communication I used Classdojo. Classdojo is an app you can add to any electronic device you use. This app allows us to communicate in real time. Please download app to your device and on the first day of school you will receive the necessary code in order to login. Also, our district is moving towards paperless communication. Therefore reports cards are only available through Focus. To register for Focus please sign up with Mrs. Griffin or Mrs. Pullen. Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday, and the expectation is students complete what is asked of them. Not only does this instill good work habits, but also serves as skill reinforcement and prepares students for what will be taught the next day. To that end, should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available at all times through Classdojo, email - erica.brown@eastorange.k12.nj.us, telephone (973-266-5895) M-F from 7:30 to 7:45AM, and 2:45pm to 3:15pm, in addition, you can also check Ms. Brown’s class page on the school website.

As most of your know, many forms will be coming home the first week. Please return all required forms as soon as possible. I am also asking that you consider being a class parent in our class. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, please know that I look forward to working with you, your child and making this a successful school year!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forwarding to seeing you on September 7th!

Ms. Brown
